Grand Tour of Vojvodina, 4 days/3 nights

On this tour, you’ll discover different faces of Vojvodina, not only of different ethnicities that inhabit it but also of diverse crafts of its people, antiquities scattered on its plain as well as its cuisine created of many diverse influences.

Day 1

Our first stop is the village of Kovačica, where we’ll visit the local women’s association that produces pretty handicrafts, the artisan violin maker, the Gallery of Naive Art and, finally, the Museum of Martin Jonas, one of the best known local artists. Next place on our tour is Idvor, the native village of the world-known scientist Mihailo Pupin. We’ll visit his birth house and a small museum dedicated to him. Later, we’ll have lunch at the “Banatski salaš” inn. After lunch, we’ll continue to Carska bara, a wetland nature reserve for a walk or (optional) a boat ride after which we’ll go to Belo Blato, a village where we’ll visit a family-run company that harvests reed and thatches roofs. Our day ends in Ečka, where we’ll spend a night in a fine hotel that was once a manor.

Day 2

After breakfast, we’ll stroll through the historic center of the city of Zrenjanin. Our next stop is the Fantast Castle famed for its beauty, the chapel iconostasis, and the full-blooded horse farm. We continue for Zobnatica, a famous horse breeding farm, where we’ll enjoy riding horses, a carriage ride and visiting the farm’s museum. Afterward, it’s time to visit Palić, a fin-de-siecle resort with its lake, old hotels, and villas of interesting architecture. Lunch. The last stop for this day is the city of Subotica at the very border with Hungary. Overnight.

Day 3

Sightseeing walk during which you’ll see the Subotica’s incredible Town Hall, Reichl Palace, Synagogue as well as many other beautiful Art Noveau edifices. In the village of Donji Tavankut, where we’ll explore the local craft of weaving straw. Our next stop will be at a farmhouse near Sombor where we’ll taste local fruit brandies, including their old specialty – brandy made of mulberries. In the village of Bezdan that lies on the Danube, we’ll first visit the authentic house turned into a museum. After that, we’ll take you to the weaving house, where damask is still handwoven as it had been done a century ago. Our lunch, the hefty gulyas, will be served in a local farmhouse. Our tour continues to Bač and its medieval castle now in ruins. Bus ride to Novi Sad where our hotel for the night is situated.

Day 4

A walk through Novi Sad’s scenic downtown followed by a visit to the sturdy Petrovaradin fortress from where we’ll enjoy the fascinating panorama of the whole city. Next, we’ll go to Sremski Karlovci, a small town of great historical importance. There, we’ll visit the most important sites and then, we’ll visit one of its famous wine cellars where we will learn about centuries-old traditions of winemaking and, naturally, will taste some of their wines, including the fortified medicinal wine called Bermet.

The next stop is the monastery of Krušedol, a mix of Byzantine art and baroque influences, with a stunning iconostasis, frescoes, and graves of many important dignitaries from Serbian history. The last thing we’ll visit on this tour is Slankamen, a city where the 1691 battle between Habsburg and Ottoman forces took place. Also, we’ll see the old village with its Roman ruins and the medieval church.

In the case of a smaller number of passengers, the organization agency reserves the right to change prices, the program or cancel the trip at least 5 days before the scheduled departure.
