This 12-day journey showcases the very best of Roman-era Serbia. The itinerary includes visits to the spectacular Zica, Studenica, Gradac, Djurdjevi Stupovi and Sopocani monasteries.
You will also have the opportunity to explore the historic Sargan Eight train route and Open Air ethnic museum in the village of Sirogojno. Day 1. Belgrade – Topola – Oplenac – Orasac – Kragujevac (LD) (cca 120km)
Arrive in Belgrade. Depart for the historical town of Topola, which features picturesque landscapes with endless meadows and valleys. Located in the heart of Serbia, this is where the kings of the Karadjordjevic Dynasty are buried. Depart for the wine country of Oplenac, where locals have grown grapes on this hilly terrain for centuries. Sample the best wine Oplenac has to offer, including Sauvignon, Trijumf, Italian Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. Depart for Orasac. Have lunch in a traditional rural home. Relax, enjoy the beautiful ambiance and spectacular views of the Sumadia region. Depart for Kragujevac. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 2. Kragujevac – Monastery Ljubostinja – Monastery Kalenic – Vrnjacka Spa (BLD) (cca 80km)
Breakfast. Depart for the Ljubostinja monastery, which is dedicated to the Dormition of the Holy Virgin. Visit the Kalenic monastery, which was founded by Protovestiar Bogdan, his wife Milica, and his brother Peter. Depart for Vrnjacka Spa. Accommodation. Lunch. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 3. Vrnjacka Spa – Zica Monastery –Studenica Monastery (BLD) (cca 60km)
Breakfast. Journey to Zica monastery, the principal endowment of King Stefan Prvovencani (1195-1223). Lunch. Visit Studenica monastery, which is dedicated to the Presentation of the Holy Virgin, represents the main church of all Serbian temples. Dinner and accommodation at Studenica monastery. Overnight.
Day 4. Studenica Monastery – Gradac Monastery – Novi Pazar (BLD) (cca 60km)
Breakfast. Depart for Gradac monastery, built by Jelena Anzujska, wife of King Uros I. The monastery’s main church is dedicated to Blagovesti; it the most prominent and earliest example of Gothic architecture in Serbia. Lunch. Depart for Novi Pazar. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 5. Novi Pazar –Sopocani Monastery –Djurdjevi Stupovi Monastery – Novi Pazar (BLD) (cca 30km)
Breakfast. Visit Sopocani monastery, famous for numerous frescoes and built by Uros I Nemanjic. Return to Novi Pazar. Visit the ruins of the Djurdjevi Stupovi monastery, built by the Great Zupan (ruler) Stefan. Lunch. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 6. Novi Pazar – Prijepolje – Mileseva Monastery (BLD) (cca 100km)
Breakfast. Depart for Prijepolje, a beautiful town in the Zlatibor District of Serbia. Lunch. Visit the Mileseva monastery, which was founded between 1234 and 1236 by the Serbian King Vladislav. Mileseva is one Serbia’s most important sanctuaries and spiritual centers. Accommodation in the monastery. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 7. Monastery Mileseva – Zlatibor Mountain (BLD) (cca 100km)
Breakfast. Depart for Zlatibor, a scenic mountain featuring gentle valleys and hilly terrain. Accommodation. Lunch. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 8. Zlatibor Mountain – Sirogojno – Sargan Eight – Zlatibor Mountain (BLD) (cca 50km)
Breakfast. Visit the Sirogojno Open Air museum, which reflects traditional life in a Serbian village. Depart for Mokra Gora. After lunch, take a ride on the famous Sargan Eight, a figure eight loop that winds through breathtaking mountain scenery. You will delight in the splendor of the outdoors. Visit the Mecavnik ethno village, where you will enjoy a delicious dinner. Return to hotel. Overnight.
Day 9. Zlatibor Mountain – Zlakusa Village – Valjevo (BLD) (cca 90km)
Breakfast. Depart for the Terzića Avlija ethno park, which is located in a beech forest close to the village of Zlakusa. The park represents a traditional historic Serbian village. Lunch featuring traditional local cuisine. Depart for Valjevo. Sample local wine in a traditional cellar. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 10. Valjevo – Belgrade (BLD) (cca 100km)

Breakfast. Panoramic and walking tour of Belgrade with a local guide, which includes Kalemegdan fortress, a stucture primary built by Celts in the third century.
