Day 1

Belgrade – Niš (D) (240 km)

Arrival in Belgrade and meeting with the guide at the airport. Departure to Niš, accommodation in a hotel. Welcome drink and snack at the hotel. Sightseeing of most important sights; visiting the Niš Fortress, a very important cultural and historical edifice that dominates the urban nucleus of the city. Visiting the monument of Šaban Bajramović, a worldwide famous Balkan gypsy jazz king. Departure to Mediana, an archeological site from the late Roman period. It was a royal property with luxurious residence and a highly organized economy, placed in the suburb of the antique Naissus (modern Niš). Return to the hotel, relaxation. Dinner in a traditional restaurant serving south-Serbian specialties. Overnight.

Day 2

Niš – Knjaževac – Timacum Minus – Felix Romuliana – Zaječar (B,D) (120 km)

After breakfast at the hotel, departure to Knjaževac, to enjoy some quality winetasting. Tour continues to Timacum Minus, which represents Roman habitation. Fortress and nearby villages were dated in 1st century AD, and last up until Justinian’s restoration of the empire in 6th century. After that, we will visit Felix Romuliana, Roman site, the former residence of Emperor Galerius, who was born and buried in this place. You’ll find out the reason why this place was considered the most important late Roman sites in Europe. Departure to Zaječar. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner in a typical restaurant in Timok’s region, with an authentic atmosphere. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3

Zaječar –Jabukovac village – Vratna – Kladovo (B,L) (120km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure toward Jabukovac, a magic village where you’ll meet people who will tell you the story about Vlach’s magic, a custom that exists from the B.C period. After this, we’ll head to the Vratna Monastery, which lies hidden between the high peaks of Miroc Mountain beside the Jabuča River. Vratna Monastery is located at the very entrance to the famous Vratna stone gates. Departure to Kladovo, accommodation at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 4

Kladovo – Fetislam – Diana – Tabula Traina – Donji Milanovac – Kladovo (BL) (approx. 240 km)

After breakfast, visiting Fetislam, the fortification situated in Kladovo on the bank of Danube. The Fortress was built in 1524 by the Ottomans and had strategic importance during the Austro-Turkish conflicts. Then, next on our way is Diana Fortress, which represents the hugest and best-preserved Roman Fortification /castrum/ on the Danube. After that, we’ll take a boat ride to Donji Milanovac during which you’ll see the most beautiful part of the Iron Gate where the famous Trian Tabula is placed. Tabula Trajana is a memorial plaque erected to mark the end of road construction. After the boat ride, we’ll visit the Open Air Gallery at Djerdap Lake. Late lunch in a beautiful environment, with a magnificent view on the wide Danube gorge. Continuing of the tour along the Danube toward Lepenski Vir. It was the center of one of the most important prehistoric cultures. At the Lepenski Vir site, the remains of religious architecture dating from 6500 to 5500 BC had been found. Depart for Golubac where we’ll visit the famous Golubac Fortress built up in the 14th century. The Danube River is 6 km wide in this place, and called the „Serbian Sea“. Follows trip toward Viminacium, a Roman town, and military camp. Numerous graves were discovered on the necropolis of this ancient town. Departure to Belgrade. Accommodation at the hotel, dinner, and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5

Belgrade (B L) (approx. 20 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Panoramic and walking tour of Belgrade with a local tourist guide. First, we’ll visit the Republic Square, Knez Mihailova Street, Belgrade’s main pedestrian zone, than Terazije, Parliament and the Saint Mark’s Church and the Royal Palace. We’ll take a walk at the Kalemegdan fortress, primarily built by Celts in the third century. Here we’ll take Belgrade underground tour. This is a perfect way to discover the hidden secrets of Belgrade. Lunch at the Kalemgdan Fortress, from where a magnificent view is spread to the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. Later, we’ll visit Saint Sava Temple, the largest Serbian Orthodox church in the Balkans and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Free time. Return to the hotel, overnight.

Day 6

Belgrade – Maradik – Monastery Krusedol – Sremski Karlovci – Petrovaradin Fortress – Novi Sad – Belgrade (BL) (approx. 200 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Maradik for visitingh a 150-year-old ethnohouse, which features exhibits that are between 50 and 200 years old. Visit the Krušedol monastery which was established by Bishop Maksim (Djordje Brankovic) in the XVI century. Depart for Sremski Karlovci. Sightseeing in Sremski Karlovci, a small baroque town famous for its beautiful architecture. Visit the town’s Orthodox church, Patriarchate court, Orthodox Seminary, the Chapel of peace, Roman Catholic church and Gymnasium. Tour continues to Petrovaradin, also known at the “Gibraltar on the Danube”. Petrovaradin Fortress has many underground tunnels as well (16 km of underground countermine system). The first larger fortifications were created with the arrival of the Romans who built the fortress (Cusum) which was a part of the fortified borders (Limes) along the Danube. Depart for Novi Sad. Late lunch in a traditional restaurant. Panoramic sightseeing of key city sights and a short walk through the pedestrian zone. The stroll will include Liberty Square, the Cathedral, City Hall, Zmaj Jovina Street, Dunavska Street, and the Orthodox Church. Return to Belgrade. Overnight.

Day 7

Belgrade – Sremska Mitrovica – Zasavica – Belgrade (BL) (approx. 170 km)

Breakfast. Depart to old Roman town Sirmium, today Sremska Mitrovica, one of four Roman capitals. We’ll visit the archeological site and the museum. One of the oldest towns in Europe, it was once known as Sirmium, the capital of the Roman Empire. The complex is an archeological site of excavated objects that today is a unique open-air museum. Later, we’ll visit Zasavica, a special Nature Reserve, famous for its numerous and diverse wildlife. It is also famous as one of the centres for the conservation of genetic resources of domestic animals in Serbia. Lunch in nature. Return to Belgrade. Free time for individual exploring of the city. Overnight.

Day 8

Belgrade

Breakfast at the hotel. Free time until transfer to the airport.
