This tour will show you the natural beauties of the southern part of the Province of Vojvodina as well as its historical and cultural treasures.
We’ll start the tour at the Hopovo Monastery, one of the largest and best-known monasteries at the Fruška Gora mountain. These monasteries used to be a strong cultural and educational center of Serbian people. After visiting the monastery, we’ll take you to one of the most popular wineries in the area,m where you’ll taste several quality wines
Only an hour later, we’ll get to Sremska Mitrovica (Sirmium), the hometown of many Roman Emperors (Decius Traian, Constantius the Second…). This city was the capital of the Roman Empire during the Tetrarchy and one of the oldest cities in Europe. Present-day town was built on a site of the ancient Sirmium, one of four Roman capitals. We’ll visit the Imperial Palace Museum, where the most important ancient objects are kept, the remains of the imperial palace. After the visit, we’ll have a nice walk through the center of this charming town.
Some 20 km away, we’ll reach the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve, the former and abandoned riverbed of Sava River. It is well-known for the presence of rare and endemic species of birds, herbs, and animals. We’ll spend the whole afternoon in this wonderful natural environment. Take a scenic boat-ride along the reserve and have a typical lunch from Srem. This is s great chance for educational and recreational activities. Some of them include wildlife observation, sports, bird-watching, fishing, boat ride, camping, photographing and hiking.
