Iron Gate cruising is the perfect tour to escape from the city and enjoy on the Danube. We start this tour early in the morning. Our first stop is at the Golubac Fortress, a medieval fortified city located in northeastern Serbia. This fortress is situated at the very entrance of the Djerdap Gorge, also known by the name the Iron Gate, standing at the section where the Danube River is the widest.
We continue towards Donji Milanovac where we’ll embark on the boat. During the 1.5 h long boat ride, we’ll see the Veliki Kazan and Mali Kazan ravines, signal houses, and many other interesting highlights. The most amazing among them is certainly the head of King Decebalus carved in the rock and the ancient Trajan’s Plaque, both of which can be seen only from the water.
After the boat ride, we’ll continue to the unique open-air traditional restaurant. At this authentic place, we’ll enjoy lunch and local specialties. Apart from the food, we will also enjoy the marvelous view overlooking the Danube and Donji Milanovac.
Afterward, we’ll head to Lepenski Vir, the fascinating Mesolithic archeological site. It is located in the Đerdap Gorge, on the left bank of the Danube River.
