Walking and cultural tour in National Park Fruška Gora

During this tour you will have a chance to get to know the best highlights of Belgrade, to enjoy in beautiful nature of Fruška Gora, as well as in its surroundings, culture and food, and inevitable European Capital of Culture for 2021, amazing Novi Sad.

Day 1

Belgrade (D) (approx. 20 km)

Arrival in Belgrade. According to your flight, we will transfer you to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel and some time at leisure to relax and refresh. In the evening hours, a short tour through the city center of Belgrade after we will take you to Skadarlija, bohemian part of the city where you will have dinner in a local restaurant with music and entertainment. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 2

Belgrade (BD) (approx. 20 km)

After breakfast, we will have a combined sightseeing tour. During the four hours of combined sightseeing tour, you will learn about the most important sights of the city of Belgrade. On foot, we will visit the biggest park in Belgrade – Kalemegdan park and the Kalemegdan fortress. Gorgeous view from the lookout at the confluence of the Sava and Danube and Novi Beograd is an excellent place for photographing.

Next, we will visit the Orthodox church, Palace of Princess Ljubica, than we continue walking to the old city of Belgrade (pedestrian zone) and Knez Mihailova Street all the way to Republic square up next to the National Museum and Theatre. After that, we will continue the sightseeing by bus. We are proceeding in the direction of Terazije, Parliament, City Hall, Pioneer Park, towards Slavija Square.

Then we will walk through the park of Karađorđe until the Temple of Saint Sava. There will be a break for a visit to the Temple of Saint Sava. The bus tour continues to Knez Miloš Street, which is called the “Street of the Embassies”. Free time in the afternoon hours. In the evening hours, dinner will be served in the restaurant on the Danube shore. Overnight stay.

 

*We suggest in the afternoon hours, visit one of the Belgrade museums (National museum or Nikola Tesla Museum or Ethnographic museum).

Day 3

Belgrade – Topola Oplenac – Belgrade (BL) approx. 170 km

After the breakfast, departure to Topola, the place where Karađorđe, a Serbian revolutionary, was chosen as the leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire in 1804. You will visit a Memorial Collection of King Peter the First, including Saint George’s Church and the Mausoleum of Karađorđević dynasty which is located on top of Oplenac Hill, in the town of Topola. Also, you will visit King Peter’s House – Gallery with private his private things as well as King Alexandar, Town of Karađorđe (built between 1911 – 1913 with personal goods and authentical weapons from the First Serbian Insurrection) and the Royal wine cellar. Lunch will be served in a quiet and unspoiled nature in a traditional village. You will enjoy the national food in typical rural households with beautiful views. After the lunch heading back to Belgrade. Free evening for individual activities. Overnight.

Day 4

Belgrade – Pećinci – Sremska Mitrovica- Zasavica – Vrdnik (BL) (approx. 150 km)

After breakfast, we depart to visit the unique and unconventional Museum of Bread, in small village Pećinci, which resulted from years of collection and research made by Serbian painter.  Here you will see a collection of ethnographic objects, tools, machines, record customs, and rituals. Collections with around 2000 artifacts are housed in the area of 1200 square meters and in several successively constructed buildings that had been designed and implemented by the owner. After the visit, we head to Sremska Mitrovica,  known as Sirmium, once a capital of the Roman Empire during the Tetrarchy, situated on the Sava river.  Visit the archaeological site and its part, the Imperial Palace complex, where you will have a chance to see numerous mosaic pavements in several levels where the oldest mosaic dates even from the 3rd century. Continue to Zasavica Special Nature Reserve, the former and abandoned riverbed of Sava River,  characterized by the presence of rare, endemic and relict species of birds, herbs and animals. The area of Zasavica Nature Reserve offers great educational and recreational possibilities, including wildlife observation, sports, bird-watching, fishing, boat rides, camping, photographing and hiking. After the lunch and a boat ride, on our way to Vrdnik, beautiful spa at Fruška Gora mountain. Accommodation. Overnight.

Day 5

Fruška Gora mountain (walking tour – approx. 20 km) (BD)

For this day, we will start our tour from Vrdnik, continue to old Vrdnik tower and to Zmajevac. This path is up to 20 km, middle range. The path is very good, you will pass through the dense wood. After a short break and lunch in the hotel restaurant, we will go to the second part of our walking tour. Walk to Rakovac Monastery, one of the 17 monasteries on Fruška Gora, visit one wine cellar in this area where we will enjoy some quality wines. Continue to the old drained lakebed and return to Vrdnik after dinner in Stari Ledinci. This path is approx. 15 km, it is a middle-range path, with up and downs, easy walk and it could be suitable for older people. Overnight.

Day 6

Vrdnik – Krušedol Monastery – Slankamen – Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad (approx. 130 km) (BL)

After the breakfast, we take a full day journey. Our first stop for today is baroque  Krušedol Monastery, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Holy Virgin. Due to its wealthy historical treasury, famous iconostasis, and many other relics, Krušedol Monastery is considered one of Serbia’s most significant monasteries. Continue to Slankamen, a beautiful small village on Danube shore where we will enjoy in 2-hour boat ride. Visit one of the biggest wine cellars in this area to enjoy good wines and tasty lunch. We finish this day in Sremski Karlovci, a small baroque town on Fruška Gora slopes and on the bank of the Danube, one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers of Serbia. Sightseeing of the city: Patriarchy Residence, Orthodox Cathedral, Theological School, and The Chapel of Peace. In, the evening arrival in Novi Sad, the European Capital of Culture for 2021. Accommodation at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 7

Novi Sad (BD) (approx. 35 km)

After breakfast, sightseeing tour of Novi Sad and Petrovaradin Fortress. Three and a half-hour sightseeing of Novi Sad and the Petrovaradin fortress by bus and on foot. During the tour, we will see the Name of Mary Church, Zmaj Jovina Street, pedestrian area of Novi Sad, Patriarch’s Palace, the Cathedral ChurchDunavska Street, and the Dunavski Park. We will cross over one of the bridges in the city by bus, and visit Petrovaradin fortress, “the Gibraltar of the Danube, one of the best-preserved and the second-largest fortification in Europe. Here you will have a unique chance to visit the underground military galleries and fulfill your experience. After many interesting stories about the fortress and its underground network, return to Novi Sad where you will have free time and opportunity to visit some of the museums of the city: Novi Sad City Museum, Museum of Vojvodina, some of the galleries (Paul Beljanski Memorial Collection, Gallery of Matica Serbian…). In the evening hours, dinner on messuage, popular Vojvodina farms with authentic atmosphere and cuisine. Back to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 8

Novi Sad – Belgrade Airport (B) (approx. 100 km)

After breakfast, according to your flight schedule, transfer to the Belgrade airport. The end of the tour.
